Popular Aerobics Machines

When it comes to aerobics, you might find that you get a better workout on a machine rather than actually running or jumping rope. Remember that like every part of a healthy workout routine, aerobics are exercises that have to be tailored to  your body and what is best for your health. You have to work together with your doctor and your personal trainer if you have one to develop a system for working out that works for you, and to make sure that whatever you are doing it is the best for your body and your mind as well.

Machines have become very popular when it comes to working out because sometimes they are easier to use and easier to get used to. You don't have to worry about running outside when it is cold out or finding a way to get your workout when you don't' have time if you have a machine in your home that you can use. The point of aerobic workout is that you are getting your heart rate up and you are getting into shape. You can do this on a machine as well as running or jumping rope.

There are several different machines that you might want to try. The two easiest and most popular would be tread mills and bikes. On both of these, you can find that you can get a great work out. The point of an aerobic work out is to get your heart rate going, so if you are riding a bike or walking or running on a treadmill, you are going to be having your aerobic exercise.

How to Prevent Knee Injuries While Doing Step Aerobics

I love and have been doing step aerobics for over 20 years. In fact, I still have and use the original Step Reebok step board, which is black and grey. One important thing I learned throughout the past 20 years was how to guard against knee injuries while doing step aerobics. One wrong  turn or twist on a step board can inflect the most painful of knee injuries, so proper form and care are needed when performing step aerobics.

New Workout Tape or DVD

If you are going to work out to a new step board DVD, view the entire routine first, not just the instructional part. Pay particular attention to any steps or moves that you are not familiar with and practice them first. When you are ready to perform the workout, skip the arm routines until you are familiar with the stepping part.

Lose Weight Doing Water Aerobics

Water provides enough resistance to give you a workout, but doesn't cause any impact on your joints. Water aerobics are great for people with health conditions or sensitivities to high or even low impact exercise.

Doing water aerobics also keeps your body temperature regulated. This helps protect against excessive sweating which can lead to dehydration and injury due to slipping. The stable water temperature also protects your body from overheating. The pool you do water aerobics in  may be heated, but the temperature will not be too warm or anywhere near dangerous. Save that for the hot tub and sauna!

A lot of people choose to lose weight doing water aerobics. It's a definite change from the typical dry land workout routine, and is just as effective - if not more so. As with any weight loss routine, you must set a schedule and stick to it. Keep a log of what exercises you do and how long you did them for.

Guide to Water Aerobics for Pregnant Women

It is highly recommended for pregnant women to take on a low-impact exercise routine throughout her pregnancy. It helps keep the body in shape as it undergoes its many changes, and keeping a healthy tone in muscles, stamina and flexibility should even help make things easier when it comes  to childbirth. However, pregnancy makes normal exercise more difficult, and the chance for injury can be greater and more dangerous. This is why water aerobics are a great choice when it comes to exercise during pregnancy. They are great for anyone, really, and especially appeal to those in rehabilitation from an injury, recovering from surgery, or those with arthritis. It's because it's the safest and least impacting way for resistance training, as 50% to 90% of the body is supported by the water (depending upon what depth of water you happen to be in), the risk of injury is extremely minimal, there is much less impact on tendons and joints, and it is just as great if not better than similar exercise on land. Also, as long as it's done in a pool and not a spa or jacuzzi (places which pregnant women should not be in, anyway), there is no risk of overheating.

Types of Exercises

Different types of water exercises may include walking, jogging or running in laps in the shallower area of the pool, which is generally twice as effective as doing the same thing out of the water. Just 30 minutes of such exercise can help burn 200-300 calories, and will circulate your blood flow and breathing into building a healthy stamina that is not just a good thing to have in general, but extremely useful when it comes to delivery. You also have a wider range of movement in the water, and accommodates flexibility and better balance than you would have on land.

Prenatal Water Aerobics: Why It's a Great Option for Today's Pregnant Women

When I became pregnant with my first child several years ago, I was a long-distance runner. I continued running, with my doctor's blessing, until experienced some spotting at about six weeks gestation. I set out to find a better way to stay in shape while pregnant, and found it in the  water. Water or aqua aerobics has become an increasingly popular way for pregnant women to get moving.

One of the worst discomforts that pregnant women run into is their increased weight and size. As the months wear on, it's not only difficult to do the things you used to - sometimes it's downright impossible. On top of limited mobility, you overheat more easily, and you may feel like no one around you understands what you're going through. These are all issues that can be solved or improved by involvement in a water aerobics program.

Water is the ultimate anti-gravity medium. When a pregnant woman is in the water, she feels less heavy and can move more easily. This makes water aerobics a low-impact activity for pregnancy-strained muscles and joints. Just the sensation of (near) weightlessness can be relaxing enough - but add a dose of healthy activity to the mix, and you've got a perfect combination. The cool temperature of most pools also helps to prevent overheating during aerobic exercise. And if you sign up for a prenatal water aerobics class at a local pool or community center, you'll likely meet plenty of pregnant women that you can relate to.

How to Get Started Successfully with Basic Step Aerobics

Are you looking for a fun and effective workout program to tone and firm your body? If so, you may want to consider basic step aerobics. Although step aerobics is not the latest or trendiest form of exercise, it gives you a fun, fast paced, calorie burning  cardio workout that will shape and tone your entire body. You don't need fancy equipment or a large space to do a step aerobics workout. A small area, a step platform, a step aerobics DVD, and a television screen are all you need to get started. Sound interesting? Here's how to get started with basic step aerobics:

Step aerobics workout: Class or DVD?

If you belong to a gym or fitness center, they may offer a basic step aerobics class. If you attend a class, pick a basic one initially so you can get the feel for stepping before attempting more complicated moves as the more advanced classes can be quite challenging. The advantage of starting with a step aerobics class is you'll be able to decide if you like stepping before investing in a step platform. You can also start with a step aerobics DVD at home but you'll need to have access to a platform. Aerobics step platforms can cost as little as $30.00 or over $100.00. There's really no need to buy an expensive one. The most important criteria are that your platform be skid proof and that it have an adjustable platform so you can alter the height.

The Basics of Aerobics

Aerobics is one of the basic exercises that one can dabble in to help lose weight. As a fat burner, it is important not to do too much. Any form of aerobics like walking, jogging, or stationary biking should be used only as a supplement to an effective weight training program. Aerobics  is just an aid and not a substitute to any weight training program as it does not possess the capability to re-fit the body.

To get most out of the aerobics exercises, one needs to do it inside one's fat burning zone- an area in which one is engaged in sufficient work to burn the fats. There is a formula to determine your fat burning zone (FBZ), here it is:

FBZ = 220 - (Age) x (.75)

Aerobics Makes for Healthy Hearts

Just about the entire world knows how beneficial a good work out can be for your body. How many really know the relationship between the heart and aerobic exercise is another story. Even though most will swear by aerobics and other forms of exercise as their preferred way to feel healthy  and to improve the quality of their life, the fact really is that your heart's health and how aerobic exercise affects it should be monitored.

All the benefits to aerobic exercise cannot be explored in one book, definitely not in one article but when your focus on aerobics and its relation to heart health it will be clear that the more you can do, the more your heart will benefit and become healthier. The correlation between these two 'partners' cannot be denied and benefits of this relationship can be reaped by anyone wise enough to implement it and will remain with you always. Even though the above may come across as obvious and stated general idea that the more exercise the healthier your heart becomes and the better it works for you, there are specific reasons that make the above statement true.

When it comes to the relationship between aerobics and heart health the basic point is that by doing aerobics you are giving yourself a work out where your heart and lungs are constantly moving faster than they are when you are resting. This means that as you work out, your heart and lungs are forced to work harder. The more that you do, the more your heart has to do for you. By making aerobics part of your routine, you are forcing your heart to work each day, and this is going to make it stronger.

Losing the Fat with Aerobics

The benefits of an aerobics program to work on your body are many. Aerobic exercise is one of the best ways to burn fat and lose weight. This method is usually even more effective than dieting because your body can actually be trained over time to do the necessary  work to give you the best results without the adverse effects of dieting.

During aerobic exercise while sweating and increasing your heart rate, the benefits of this output is being derived by all your muscles. During aerobic exercise fresh oxygen and blood is streamed into all the systems of the body, putting you in the best possible position to get rid of those unwanted extra pounds as you work out. Routinely doing aerobic exercise will finally give you the control over your weight problem that you always wanted.

To explain simply, as your body remains in constant motion during your work out, every one of your internal systems are now working harder than usual to control and maintain regular body functions at a normal rate. In order to keep exercising your muscles need to move a lot more and your heart is going to pump and work harder to facilitate this additional movement of the muscles by supplying more blood and by extension more oxygen. An additional work load will also be taken on by the lungs to provide the heart with enough oxygen to continue pumping blood to your muscles.

Is Step Aerobics for Me?

Step Aerobics Can Be a Great Form of Exercise, but It's Certainly Not for Everyone!

I've taught step aerobics for 12 years. I enjoy almost everything about it. It's a great cardio workout that emphasizes your glutes and legs. With a little effort, you can get your arms working as well.

I enjoy the choreography. There are plenty of moves to learn and teach: the u-turn, L-step, tic-toc, charleston...Even if you think you know them all, if go to another instructor's class, there's always more. Also, it's less boring than the elliptical or treadmill for indoor  exercise.

I have to admit that step is not as popular as it once was. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, it was the most well-attended group fitness class at most gyms. This is no longer the case. My step class attendance rarely rivals that of Pilates, boot camp, and kick boxing. Yet, we still have our die-hards. I was only a kid in the 1980's, but I'm one of them.
